Gratitude is Just the Beginning
Jul 22, 2024What do you hold in value?
Does the answer to the question come quickly or do you have to ponder it for a bit?
Given that we’re beings of consciousness it would make sense that we would be choosing our thoughts and behaviours based on what we value and that we would be living proof of what we hold dear. But I’m not so sure that’s true.
The reason being that we are not consciously choosing those thoughts or behaviours – almost 100% of the time the programming is running the show – so we may be living in a protected state, a go-along-to-get-along state, or even a state of fear about what might happen if we don’t do as expected of us.
I believe it is when we are brought to our knees by a life-altering situation – loss of employment, our home being invaded by nature or a perpetrator, losing something or someone dear, a health scare, or world event that shook our confidence – that what we value rises to the surface as we navigate through whatever is on our doorstep of change. The programming and habitual way has been interrupted and we become very present in our thoughts.
It's during each of those times that, to get past and grow from them, we not only feel the negative impact but recognize the nuggets of positivity and take the good from the occurrence. After all, there are two sides to every coin, and gratitude for what brought us to the point of change, or even beyond, is essential in the grounding process.
But sometimes those incidents can bring us to ground zero in the emotions department and hamper our desire for more. Do we dare expect more at a time of loss? When we feel grateful to have the basics, we tend to temper our ideals and motivation. Why do we moderate aspiration in the time of gratitude?
Aha! ~ “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” ~ Napoleon Hill
“Grateful” and “satisfied” are not interchangeable.
When something unexpected negatively impacts us, we feel the gut punch and eventually rebalance ourselves through gratitude. The process of recovering from the setback can bring what we value most to the forefront and be a leveling of sorts.
But being thankful for the goodness of the in no way negates your spirit wanting to expand itself and continue to serve even higher. There are no apologies necessary and no good reason to stifle creativity or keep you from reaching higher; in fact, that is the very time to reset that compass to your values and start again.
“Adversity is the first path to truth.” ~ Lord Byron
