Work When No One is Watching
Jan 13, 2025There is this conundrum about goals: do I keep them to myself to protect the idea and my time or do I share them openly to hold me accountable and attract what I need to build it?
I’m one who gets excited about an idea. Because I am transparent in nature and always want to inspire others with what I am learning, I have tended to share my ideas in the early stages.
What I never considered is that people who appear to be supportive and enthusiastic cheerleaders may be energetically sabotaging my dreams because of their own, unconscious self-value issues. It’s not intentional on their part but many people have a difficult time seeing others going for it when they haven’t hit their stride themselves. Negative energy can undermine your best efforts.
But Jim Rohn has yet another take on it.
Rohn says that the reason we share our intentions out loud is for a need for recognition and approval. He says, “The thrill of saying, ‘look at me, I’m on my way!’”. But he claims that the moment you share your intentions you have given your power away.
The moment you speak of your idea you are opening yourself up to noise – distractions, nay-sayers, criticism, doubters, haters – forces than can easily derail your best-laid plans.
Aha! ~ Safeguard your dreams. Let your results speak for themselves.
There may be people with whom you will need to share your intentions in order to get the finances, assistance, education, mentoring or support you need to achieve it. After all, you can’t accomplish anything on your own; however, be strategic with choosing your inner circle, reveal only what you need to and harness your energy to apply to your desire.
“When you’re not seeking validation or approval, you’re more connected with your own instincts and rely on your own connection. Yes, you need feedback, it’s invaluable. But it has to come at the right time from the right people. Not everyone is qualified and not every time is a good time to get feedback.” Jim Rohn.
Rohn draws the analogy that talking about your goal in the initial stages is like driving a car and constantly stopping to tell people where you are going. Instead, apply that time you might be explaining or updating people to simply take consistent, purposeful action towards your goals on a daily basis.
It’s not about being secretive, it’s about being strategic. Discretion is both strategic and a gift to yourself. You don’t need applause or permission to begin your goals. Let that inner flame burn!
Make your main goal to impress yourself! That kind of trust and confidence is rare and incredibly powerful. Allow your actions to create waves that will inspire others and bring you the joy, pride and abundance you so deserve.
As my friend, Lynn, says, “2025 is going to be epic!” It already is, Lynn, is already is!
